How Often Should I Strength Train?
 
Weight training works by creating small tears in muscle tissue, and then rebuilding those tears into bigger and stronger muscles.  Most of us should train on alternating days to allow for sufficient recovery and rebuilding of muscle.  2 - 4 days a week, depending on goals and time constraints should allow for steady progress.  It is also possible to alternate "light" and "heavy" sessions for a good balance of power and endurance training.
